Character Question #2
PROMPT: Talk about your Muse's parents/family.
While Gabrielle had no problem leaving her family behind to go on adventures with Xena, it's later on seen that she may miss them quite a bit -- as she has told Xena stories about them, about her sister Lila especially. Gabrielle's parents do not seem to take Xena so kindly, seeing as they had a totally different future envisioned for Gabrielle and somehow blame Xena for the path she took (not knowing Gabrielle was the one that got the idea in Xena's head anyways). To then, she probably was the farm girl still, their little girl, no matter how much she's grown. After the whole Hope thing, they may have been left with some bittersweet feelings after all.
I don't think they ever fully liked Xena, but they learned to accept that Xena was a part of Gabrielle and that Gabrielle was happy to be with her.
Some spoilers ahead, as with everything in this profile.
The last remaining family members Gabrielle has after the time jump, though this is still left for debate, are Lila and Sarah. Sister and Niece respectively. Lila and Gabrielle seemed to be close siblings growing up -- and it is never really said if she's older or younger. For simplicity sake, let's say they're close in age but Gabrielle is older. They all lived together through Gabrielle's teenagehood. Lila is amongst the first to understand and support Gabrielle in her decision to follow Xena, believing Xena truly has changed for the better. Lila trusts her sister, it seems, trusts her judgement, even though at the beginning she snarkily remarks that Gabrielle couldn't fight back against anything.
Gabrielle and Sarah don't have a lot of relationship considering the timing in which they met, but when they met there was a lot to say and do. Sarah confesses to having to kill her grandparents, being just a child in Gurkhan's hand, having to kill her own father as well. She turned cold to survive. Gabrielle reassures her that she had no choice, she was just a child at the time. Gabrielle doesn't blame her for anything and is compassionate towards her niece. Interestingly, Sarah knew of Gabrielle enough, probably through what Lila, Herodotus and Hecuba told her.
Now, Hope is Gabrielle's daughter but this is a hush hush topic. Lila knows about it vaguely, doesn't know the grandson bit I'm assuming and Sarah definitely doesn't know anything. It's a sensitive topic, Xena and Gabrielle barely talk about it and Gabrielle hasn't necessarily healed from it, so I can see why it would never come up.
It is never mentioned on the show whether or not Gabrielle had cousins, grandparents or other family members, so I think this concludes her family tree.
