A list of places canonically visited (unfinished).

This is a list of mostly canon (unless stated otherwise) places Gabrielle has travelled or passed by during the run of the show. Reminder that the Xena timeline in itself borrows and moves myths and legends about, so it's not an exact science in what specific era this show takes place. Note, this doesn't necessarily count Xena's own adventures, only places where Gabrielle has been in, with or without Xena.

Additionally, some names of countries and cities are completely different from their modern day counter parts and some names are practically made up by the show's canon. So this should explain why places like Nippon/Japan are referred to as Jappa/Land of The Rising Sun in the show. The reason for the name changes also seems to stem from production and other external decisions to allow the show on air. One could also argue it was to give more degree of separation from the Xenaverse to the real life parts, given that the show was put in a bit of a spot with religious groups in the past.

There's also made up places, locations that are not exact, and a lot of traveling. Here we go!

DIVIDED BY CONTINENT:

• EUROPE: Greece, Britannia, Italia, Norseland (Explained below), Macedonia (Only in reincarnation).

• ASIA: Turkey, Chin, Jappa, India, Syria, Siberia, Phoenicia (Lebanon), Palestine.

• AFRICA: Egypt, Morocco, Unspecified desert (Suspected to be Argelia - explained way below),

• AMERICA (NORTH, CENTRAL & SOUTH): United States (only visited in Reincarnations and in 'Send In The clones'), otherwise never visited in canon.

• ANTARTICA: Never visited in canon.

• OTHERWORDLY/FANTASY REALMS: Illusia, Aiden's Realm, Tartarus*, Hell*, Heaven*, Amazon Land of The Dead.

Under the cut, there's more goodies and more details.

*Tartarus is a greek kind of hell part of the Underworld, but there's a different kind of Hell which is HELL as we know it in itself. Gabrielle accidentally goes to Hell once, but she also goes to Tartarus in a previous episode. Both exist in her universe. In addition, the counterpart to HELL is Heaven and she's gone through it, while the counterpart to Tartarus is the Elysian Fields. However, Gabrielle doesn't visit the fields, she sees it, but doesn't go there.

COUNTRIES & CITIES:

• Greece: The show takes place in a lot of places from Greece, obviously. Places she's been in include (no particular order): Potedeia (where she was born, located in ancient Thrace), Amphipholis, Athens, Thebes, Corinth, Sparta, Pylos, Trachis, Ithaca, Cirra, Thessaly, Delphi. More to be added. Greece is, naturally, the most visited place on the show.

• Italia: Rome, Sicily (Mount Edna and Joxer's tavern are here), Venitia, Spamona

• Turkey: Troy before it was destroyed and it fell. It is now known as Anatolia.

• Britannia:

• Egypt: Alexandria, more specifically Cleopatra's palace.

• Chin/China:

• India:

• Jappa/Japan:

• Siberia:

• Morocco: Mogador, as far as we know, is the only place Gabrielle visits on the show.

• Syria:

• Norseland: This is actually (probably) a combination of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. We are not entirely specified any place during The Ring trilogy, so this stays as vague as 'Norseland'.

Places speculated:

• Argelia: Unspecified and speculated solely because it's never mentioned per se. Argelia is, in our modern map, below Morocco, and the episode of 'Who's Gurkhan' takes place in Morocco. They are seen boarding a ship but the following episode they're not and it's never necessarily addressed. So, they're still in North Africa. The only reason I say this is Argelia is because they encounter the female warrior Kahina. That is the only connective tissue to any country.

MISC:

• Amazon Tribes:

• Shark Island/Prison: In the episode 'Locked up And Tied Down' Gabrielle infiltrates the Shark Island Prison as a healer to rescue Xena, who had willingly let herself be taken in. Here's the thing. In the episode it is said by name, though its specifics are never given, like the rest of the places in the show. This is a real life place, or should I say many real places. Many islands share this name. So, it's hard to pin point where exactly this island was based off. EDIT: I've given the episode another look and there are some indications that this Shark Island may be in reference to the Shark Island Concentration Camp in Namibia. The reason I argue this is because the guards in the island seem to have arm bands that give a very... specific look if I may. Again, this is all speculatory.

NOTES AND THOUGHTS:

I will remind you that this is ONLY what Gabrielle herself has traversed through, this is in no way a totally comprehensive list of places visited or referenced in the show as a whole, or places Xena visited in her past (which seems to be more than what Gabrielle ends up travelling as a whole).

Travelling from country to country they stop in near villages and other places, so maybe those are not mentioned but they're implied. Traveling on sea especifically makes this happen, stopping on the nearest island for supplies or to wait out the weather -- same with travelling on foot, arriving to the nearest town and seeking shelter in a tavern or an inn to brave the tempestuous weather. That sort of thing. So, in reality, Gabrielle and Xena have visited far more places than the ones accounted here, even if it's just briefly.
